Vecima 10G platform supports XGS-PON, GPON, 10G-EPON, EPON for FTTP

Sept. 29, 2022
The Vecima Entra EXS1610 All-PON shelf now becomes a key component of Vecima’s existing Unified Access product portfolio, which enables selective deployment both Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) (Remote PHY, Remote MACPHY) and FTTP technologies.

At SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2022 (Sep. 19-22), Vecima Networks announced the official launch of its Entra EXS1610 All-PON 10G platform.

The EXS1610 supports the gamut of widely deployed PON standards, including XGS-PON, GPON, 10G-EPON, and EPON technologies. Combo PON support is also included for simultaneous support of XGS-PON and GPON connectivity.

The Vecima Entra EXS1610 All-PON shelf now becomes a key component of Vecima’s existing Unified Access product portfolio, which enables selective deployment both Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) (Remote PHY, Remote MACPHY) and FTTP technology in any market or hub deployment, "allowing maximum flexibility for deployment of both cable access and fiber access technologies based on specific subscriber need," as reckoned by the company.

EXS1610 technical profile

The Vecima EXS1610 provides technical features optimized for fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) service providers, specifically including:

  • 16 x PON ports: XGS-PON/GPON (Combo PON) and 1G/10G-EPON.
  • Uplink optics: 2 x 100/40G & 2 x 25/10G with broad third-party optics support.
  • Multi-vendor optical network terminal (ONT) interoperability.
  • 300mm depth designed for ETSI-rack.
  • 1+1 AC or DC power redundancy.
  • Temperature-hardened shelf for OSP deployments.

In addition, Vecima provides support for third-party ONTs through a comprehensive ONT/ONU interoperability program. The program ensures no single PON vendor lock-in for specific customer premises equipment (CPE). New ONT/ONU vendors are added regularly based on industry standards.

“The Entra EXS1610 All-PON Shelf is an extension of Vecima’s award-winning and market-leading PON solution offerings,” concluded Vijay Raman, VP of fiber access product line management at Vecima. “We believe our open and flexible support of multiple PON variants, and our shelf and node platforms offer a variety of fiber-to-the-premises deployment options for our existing and future customers.”
